A Message from Our Camp Instructor (2017)
Hi everyone! My name is Jeff Guerin and I will be returning as the Discovery Educator for Junior Summer Discovery this summer. My family and I moved to Peterborough from Cambridge, Ontario about two years ago when I took a job with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, and we have been very happy to find friendly people and a variety of community-oriented events in this great city! I have been fortunate in my career so far to have gained a great deal of experience working with young minds. These experiences include: Kindergarten placements during Teacher's College and at Kidsability, volunteering in Kindergarten classes in Cambridge, working as the English Language Teacher in a Kindergarten facility in South Korea, and teaching a number of primary classes in the Peterborough area as an Occasional Teacher. I am looking forward to developing and delivering a great program that will combine discovery, learning and fun for the children and educators alike! - Jeff
2017 Camp Themes:
July 10 - 14 We Are Canada!
Help us celebrate Canada's 150+ years with crafts and games spanning our First Nations origins, early English and French settlers, up to the present day. We will look at Canada's contributions to the world, and focus on our proud multicultural traditions.
July 17-21 A Healthy You!
This week we will be looking at all the ways we can keep ourselves stay healthy in both our bodies and our minds. Bring your runners because we will be outside doing lots of physical activity such as sports, obstacle courses, and co-operative games. We will talk about nutrition and healthy choices. We will also be focusing on keeping a positive mental attitude and how we can be optimistic people who love ourselves and others.
July 24-28 Big Beautiful World
By using a combination of science, art, exploration, and discovery, we will look at the diverse and amazing beauty that can be found all around us. Focusing on the exotic and the local, we will look at themes such as colour, structures (man-made and natural), plants, and animals. We will be spending lots of time in and around the museum grounds discovering what beauty is right under our noses everyday!
July 31 - August 4 The World of Water
Bring your bathing suits because we'll be exploring everything water! From our oceans and sea-life to the importance of our fresh water and what we can do to keep it clean and plentiful. We will be doing lots of water related activities, both educational and fun!
August 8-11 Everyone is a Scientist!
Through observation and discovery we will be going through the scientific process both in the lab, and in nature! This will be a week packed with fun, interactive experiments, and experiences not to be missed!
August 14-18 Imagine Art!
Through stories, games, and imaginative play, we will be unlocking our creativity and expressing it through lots of fun mediums including: paint, acting, writing, and music. Bring all of your great ideas and super artistic talent!
