Collections: Archival Photographs

The Museum & Archives hold several Photographic Collections.

Parks Studio Fonds

Comprising approximately 70,000 negatives, representing the surviving body of work of two of Peterborough's best known professional photographers. The photographs document daily life, local business and industry, urban development, and key events in the history of Peterborough from the late 1930's to 1980. Over 40% of the fonds consists of historical subject matter, including special events, aerial photography, postcard photography, downtown Peterborough, commercial contracts and photo documentation of major construction projects & military training. The remaining 60% are portraits.

Balsillie Collection of Roy Studio Images

The Balsillie Collection of Roy Studio Images comprises over 300,000 glass plate and film negatives. The collection covers the period between 1896 and 1992, and was acquired by the Peterborough Museum & Archives in 2000, through a donation. Many of the images are portraits, while the remainder depict local scenes and historical events. The Balsillie Collection illustrates the history of the community, pastimes, pleasures, work and family life.
