Summer Discovery Children's Camps - for children ages 7-11

The Peterborough Museum & Archives presents:
IMPACT! The Meteor the Changed Prehistory
Join science journalist Peter McMahon for an evening of interactive meteor
hunting: From a look how a giant killer asteroid could have doomed the
dinosaurs and what it would do to Earth today, to a chance to handle actual
meteors and see how they create shooting stars.
PLUS stick around for an all-request telescope session to explore the night
sky with large instruments outside the museum, all while watching the year's
biggest meteor shower from our dark sky site.*
(*observing after talk is weather permitting - cloudy-sky activities include
an interactive photorealistic planetarium show)

Instructors:
Dr. Amy Barron is an archaeologist and science teacher for Scientists in School. She has been running museum programs for twenty years, sharing her love of science and history with children of all ages.
Laura Rye is new to Summer Discovery 2010 and brings with her lots of great new ideas and a delightful, welcoming personality. Laura volunteered at Snofest and March Break this year. She is a graduate of the Queens/Trent teacher education program and looks forward to inspiring campers with a love of nature and the outdoors.
Jake Differ is an award-winning Canadian musician and children’s entertainer who has toured extensively with his child-friendly performances. The Peterborough Museum & Archives is thrilled to have Jake back for a second year of Summer Discovery camps. http://www.musicbyjake.com/
Peter McMahon is an award-winning science journalist and author who has worked for CTV, Discovery Channel, The Toronto Star, and the kids science publication YES Magazine. He has covered space shuttle launches, and dinosaur digs, walked inside a particle accelerator, and journeyed 2 km underground in search of the origins of the universe. His science experiment book on trains of the future will be published by Kids Can Press this fall.
Rebecca Reynolds returns with more fantabulous art and fantasy. Rebecca earned her Expressive Arts Certificate at the Haliburton School of the Arts and has more than 15 years’ experience instructing children of all ages with her creative, dynamic teaching style. Watch for Rebecca’s art on exhibit at the Blue Tomato, Hunter Street, Peterborough.

Instructors:
Cheri Verge has held successful Summer Discovery camps at the Peterborough Museum & Archives for several years and has over 20 years’ experience caring for and instructing children. Her Kinderkidz camps were a highlight of Summer Discovery 2009 and March Break 2010 and the Museum is delighted to have her back again for Summer Discovery this year.
Susie Clark returns to Summer Discovery for two weeks of KinderKidz. Susie is a certified teacher who enjoys dance and fitness and provides innovative programming for Summer Discovery's youngest campers.
